Lori Sturdevant is a native of Dell Rapids, South Dakota. She is a 1974 graduate of Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with an interdisciplinary major in science journalism. She joined the Minneapolis Tribune as a summer replacement reporter in 1975, became a reporter for that paper in 1976, and eventually moved up to lead capitol reporter and a newsroom assignment editor. She joined the editorial staff in 1992, writing editorials and a weekly column about state government and politics. Sturdevant is also an author and has published several books, including Her honor: Rosalie Wahl and the Minnesota women's movement (2014) and The Pillsburys of Minnesota (2011).
