Donald Jerome Omodt was born in Saint Paul in 1927 to Saint Paul police officer Hugh Omodt and his wife Lillian (Becker) Omodt. Don Omodt served as an Assistant Hennepin County Attorney and worked as an FBI agent before serving as sheriff of Hennepin County from 1967 to 1995. Omodt was president of the National Sheriffs' Association from 1986 to 1987, and had a strong interest in genealogy and in local history.
