RICHARD E. BARTZ:

Richard Earl Bartz was assistant treasurer of St. Paul Federal Savings and Loan Association, which merged into Midwest Federal Savings and Loan Association in 1972. After the 1972 merger he was assistant treasurer of Midwest Federal. In the 1980s he worked in accounting at West Publishing Company, which became part of West Group. He was a member of the Twin Cities Chapter of the American Savings and Loan Institute; a member, historian, and treasurer of Elim Covenant Church in Saint Paul; and the author of a number of family histories held by the Minnesota Historical Society library. Bartz and his wife Judith made their home in Saint Paul.

Midwest Federal Savings and Loan Association materials include minutes of a directors meeting (January 21, 1981), flyers, letterheads, savings certificates, and Midwesterner and Trunk Line newsletters. St. Paul Federal Savings and Loan Association files include an audit report, brochures, savings certificates, loan records, clippings, survey maps, and statement of condition reports. Included as well are savings certificates from Ben Franklin Federal Savings and Loan, First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Saint Paul, and from Minneapolis Savings and Loan Association.

The American Savings and Loan Institute records consist mostly of conference materials and programs with some correspondence, meeting notes and agendas, and speech texts.

West Group materials include the Eagan Reporter, West at Work, the West Reporter, and Headline News newsletters. Files also include some correspondence and memoranda.

Elim Covenant Church papers include articles of incorporation and amendments, records related to changing the name of the church, directories, annual reports, Sunday worship bulletins, records and correspondence regarding grants and the general business of the church, a memorial and gift book, and material concerning the 2004 closure of the congregation.

Personal papers consist of Bartz' correspondence, diaries of Harry Guy Burcalow and Vesta Burcalow, and a list of interments at Etna Cemetery in Fillmore County.
