George Draper Dayton II (9/21/1907-10/13/1988) was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to David Draper Dayton and Louise Winchell Dayton Denman. He was a grandson of George Draper Dayton, the founder of Dayton’s.

He was educated at Whittier School (1913-1918), Blake School (class of 1924), Princeton University (class of 1928). He married Marion Harriet McDonald on June 26, 1928, in Minneapolis. Their children include George Draper Dayton III (6/13/1929-), Harriet McDonald Dayton Jaffray Dickey (2/26/1932-), and Margaret Dayton Ankeny (1/1/1934-).

George Dayton began his business career with the Dayton Company in 1923. He held the positions of secretary (1936), treasurer (1941), executive vice president (1947), and vice president (Dayton Corporation, 1967). He retired from the Dayton-Hudson Corporation on July 21, 1971.
