Charles Lowrey Davis (8/23/1833-6/11/1923) was born in Chester, Windsor County, Vermont. He was mustered into the 10th Minnesota Infantry Regiment, Company D, in August 1862, promoted to 1st lieutenant the next month, and to captain in February 1864. Serving his entire tenure with Company D, he was detailed to report to the Fort Snelling Draft Rendezvous for duty conducting recruits and draftees to Minnesota regiments in the field.

After the Civil War, Davis served as publisher for Red Wing, Minnesota's Argus newspaper and is buried in that city's Oakwood cemetery.
