The Yoerg Brewery was founded in 1849 by Anthony Yoerg and his son Anthony Yoerg, Jr. It was first located between Eagle and Chestnut Streets and remained at that location until 1870. From that time until its final closing in 1953, the Brewery was located near the bluffs at Ohio and Ethel streets. The Brewery was forced to close in 1920, following the enactment of the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In June, 1933, the Yoerg Brewing Company was organized by the sons of Anthony Yoerg, Jr., Frank and Lewis Yoerg, and remained in business until 1953.
