Expand/CollapseHISTORICAL NOTE

The Hearing Society of Minnesota, founded in 1922 as the Minneapolis Society for the Hard of Hearing, grew out of the Committee on Work for the Deaf of the Minneapolis Woman's Club. In addition to providing services to the hearing impaired, the Society also promoted the recognition and acceptance of the effects of hearing impairment, challenging personal limitations, and changing societal misconceptions, and worked to create community awareness of the potential of the hearing impaired.
