Iner J. Johnson was born in Sweden in 1914 and came to the United States with his family when he was 10 years old. He was active in social, political, and cultural organizations for much of his youth and adulthood. He was vice president of the Hennepin County Democratic-Farmer-Labor party, and served as treasurer of Boy Scout Troop #270. Johnson was active in Scandinavian societies, including the Minnesota American Swedish Cultural Foundation and the Minnesota Swedish Council of America, and served as chairman of Svenskarnas Dag, Incorporated for more than 25 years.
