Includes compiled biographical sketches, correspondence (mainly with Georgia Ray DeCoster Lindeke) about family history, and photocopies of genealogical documents; also includes a history of the Ray (Wray) family name. The compiled genealogical materials contain data back to the early 17th century.
Ray family, Mankato, 1952-1976.
Includes correspondence (particularly of Philip L. Ray) and photocopied clippings regarding the family's historical connection with Mankato, Minnesota.
Brewster family, undated.
Includes photocopy of draft of Colonial Dames of America proof of eligibility of descent from William Brewster for Georgia Ray DeCoster and information on the Isaac Brewster house.
Eldredge family, 1938-1971.
Potter family, 1960s-1987.
Philip Lacey Ray papers:
Ray was born July 10, 1890, in Mankato, Minnesota, the son of John H. and Genevieve (Eldredge) Ray. He was active in mining, banking, and timber ventures in Duluth. In 1930, at the request of Louis W. Hill, he moved to St. Paul to become president and director of First Trust Company. He was later involved with the First National Bank of St. Paul. From 1945 to 1971 he was president of the Great Northern Iron Ore Properties. He served on numerous corporate and foundation boards. He died July 18, 1976 in St. Paul.

P27592John Henry Ray, Jr., papers:
John H. Ray, Jr., was born September 27, 1886, in Mankato , Minnesota, the son of John H. and Genevieve (Eldredge) Ray. In 1912 he married Hama T. Potter of Boston. He was a lawyer in Minnesota and a member of Republican state central committee prior his move to New York about 1923. He was associated in various capacities with American Telephone and Telegraph Company until 1951. He served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from New York between January 3, 1953 and January 3, 1963. After his retirement from Congress he continued the practice of law. He died May 21, 1975, on Staten Island, New York.

Contains primarily incoming and outgoing correspondence dated 1960-1962 concerning family matters; the earlier letters are mostly from his father about family matters.
John Henry Ray, Sr. papers:
John H. Ray, Sr., was born in Ohio, December 12, 1838 and came to Minnesota in 1857, ultimately settling in Mankato where he was a banker. He died in 1920 in Los Angeles. In 1885, he married Genevieve Eldredge Hawley.

Genevieve Sterling Eldredge Hawley Ray papers:
Genevieve Ray was born June 17, 1852 in Cincinnatus, New York, the daughter of Lyman and Adelphia (Carter) Eldredge. She died February 11, 1943 in St. Paul.
Miscellaneous papers, 1908, 1937.
Includes a printed program of The Women's Association of the Church of the Redeemer (1907-1908) and an extract from a letter (1937) about a Parsis Thread Ceremony in India.
Reminiscence, September 1934.
Includes photographs of scenes in Cincinnatus, Cortland County, New York.
