Expand/CollapseCROP REPORTS AND SUMMARIES

Crop reports: There are two or three reports per month, beginning with spring planting and ending with fall harvesting. They provide data on weather, soil and crop conditions since the last report; parasitic problems and control measures; progress of the season's field work; expected plantings of various field crops, the progress of each throughout the growing season, and harvest projections.

Crop summaries: There are two or three summaries per season commenting in very general terms (often statistical) on the progress of various crop types, projected harvests, and comparisons with the previous season.

Reports and summaries are both divided into several reporting areas, usually Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa, Montana, and the Western District (West of Troy, Montana). Each area receives a separate synoptic paragraph.

The reports become more detailed as they become more recent. Some also contain mentions of fruit and livestock conditions and expectations.
