HISTORICAL NOTE
The Minneapolis Community Union Project (M-CUP) was incorporated in 1966 to promote and improve the welfare of the people living in the poorer neighborhoods of Minneapolis, specifically the near south side. Its organizing activities promoted community activism to fight poverty, reduce crime, and increase access to welfare benefits. It coordinated nationally with the Students for a Democratic Society and was especially concerned with services for the Native American community in the Phillips Neighborhood. The organization dissolved in late 1968.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
Administrative and other subject files document the activities of the organization. Major correspondents include Patricia Larson, Doug Elliott, and Jack Caan. Background files contain flyers, brochures, and reports featuring information on similar organizations in other areas of the nation and on general topics of interest.
