BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Hanford Lennox Gordon was born in Andover, New York on December 30, 1836, and died on November 13, 1920. He came to Minnesota in 1857, and settled in Clearwater. In 1861, he enlisted in the First Minnesota Regiment, but he left soon after due to health problems. He then went on to practice law in Monticello and St. Cloud, where he also served as the register for the U.S. land office there. Following this, Gordon lived in Minneapolis for a number of years, then moved to Los Angeles, California. He is the author of several books of poems, many of which relate Minnesota.
