Expand/CollapseHISTORICAL NOTE

American Ex-Prisoners of War was established by servicemen's families in New Mexico in 1942 as the Bataan Relief Organization, for the purpose of sending aid to captured servicemen on Bataan, in the Philippines. Its membership consisted of parents, wives, and girl friends of the captured men. The name of the organization was changed to Bataan Veteran's Organization in 1946, and in 1949 to American Ex-Prisoners of War. The group was organized into state departments, and local chapters within each department. The Department of Minnesota was chartered in November 1985.
