Expand/CollapseHISTORICAL NOTE

Mutual Service Insurance Companies traces its origins to five small insurance firms: American Farmers Mutual Automobile Insurance Company (founded 1919, Lake Elmo, Minnesota), Cooperators Life Association (Minneapolis), Cooperative Insurance Mutual (Appleton, Wisconsin), Cooperators Life Mutual (Milwaukee), and Central Mutual Fire (Superior, Wisconsin). Through a series of mergers these firms, by 1949, had become the Mutual Service Life Insurance Company and the Mutual Service Casualty Insurance Company, collectively known as Mutual Service Insurance Companies, with headquarters on University Avenue in St. Paul. In 1979, the Mutual Service Insurance Companies adopted the marketing identifier MSI Insurance Companies, and opened a new headquarters building in Arden Hills, Minnesota. In 2000 Mutual Service Insurance Companies became allied with Country Financial, headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois.
