BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
David Leonard Johnson was born
September 14, 1949 in Minneapolis. He was a 1969 graduate of John F. Kennedy High
School, Bloomington, Minnesota. Johnson volunteered for military service and served
in the Vietnam War from January 12 to December 7, 1970 as a medic with the United
States Army. He later worked for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources as a
multi-media technician. He was a member of a network of Vietnam veterans known as
The Black Knights. Johnson died October 7, 2001 of liver cancer, attributable to his
having contracted Hepatitis C in Vietnam.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
The collection includes Johnson's high school diploma, reports and records related to his military service and to his subsequent illness, membership cards, Black Knights reunion certificates, photocopies of Johnson's birth and death certificates, and material relating to Johnson's posthumous inclusion on the In Memory Honor Roll, a roster of service people who died as a result of the Vietnam War but not in combat.
