Elva Walker Spillane was born Elva Dawson in Everett, Massachusetts, June 29, 1914. She married Dr. Walter Walker, a grandson of Minneapolis lumberman T. B. Walker, in Boston and moved to Minnesota. They were divorced, and she married Minneapolis businessman Jack Spillane in 1979. Walker Spillane was concerned with issues relating to aging and nursing, serving on numerous boards and committees at the local, state and national levels. She ran unsuccessfully for Congress as a DFL candidate from Minnesota's Third District in 1966. With her husband Jack she operated National Purity, Inc., a Minneapolis soap company. She died November 24, 2001 at her home in Deephaven, Minnesota.
