BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
George
Washington Gauthier was born in St. Paul, July 8, 1853, the son of Jean Baptiste
Gauthier. He was a mail carrier, an agent for National Liberty Insurance Company,
and a wood carver. Gauthier was active in the Minnesota Territorial Pioneers
Association, and wrote and lectured on the history of St. Paul and the state. He
died February 26, 1940.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
The collection includes news clippings about and obituaries of members of the Gauthier family and the related Goulet family; clippings, correspondence and miscellaneous papers, a diary of a trip to Florida (1930), and writings and photographs; organizational records, addresses, correspondence, and membership lists of the Minnesota Territorial Pioneers Association. Other material collected by Gauthier includes general historical clippings, poems and other writings, photographs of St. Paul and of Ezra Meeker of Litchfield, and a commission appointing A.K. Doe as a captain in the 33rd Regiment of State Militia (1863).
