Vogt’s memoirs (3 volumes, 1932-1956) contain information on the families and on his early life in Glasgow Township, Wabasha County (Minn.); his banking career in North Dakota; World War I; and his career in real estate in Florida (1926) and Minneapolis (1929-1950s), where he was associated with Wilbur B. Foshay.

Edward J. Vogt's father Ferdinand was born in 1863 in Liechtenstein, emigrated to the United States, and married Mary Elizabeth Vaplon in Wabasha, Minnesota in 1893. He returned to his homeland in 1899 after the death of his wife and died there in 1900. Mary Elizabeth Vaplon was the daughter of Konrad Fidel Vaplon, who was born in Bludenz, Austria in 1933, emigrated to the United States in 1859, married Karolina Meyer in Wabasha in 1864, and died in Wabasha in 1914.

Edward Vogt spent much of his early life on his aunt's farm in Glasgow Township. He had a banking career in North Dakota. He was a sergeant in the First North Dakota National Guard during World War I. He also had real estate ventures in Florida during 1926 and Minneapolis from 1929-1950s. Vogt was associated with Wilbur B. Foshay and was responsible for obtaining clients for the Foshay Tower office building.

A translation of a novel written by Josef Wichner and based on the history of the Vaplon family. Wichner (1852-1923) was the son of Katharina (Vaplon) and Friedrich Wichner. Edward Vogt's European relatives presented him a copy of the narrative in German (Im Schnechenhause). The book was translated by Sister M. Dorothea of St. Francis Academy. Also includes family records of Ignaz Fidel Vaplon and Anna Maria Hummel and "Read's Landing in the Pioneer Days" published by Wabasha County Herald-Standard.
