Contains a number of clippings on the reported discoveries of coal in Minnesota; of gold in the Lake Vermilion region; Eames's 1863 exploration of Minnesota; and the formation of the Pioneer Coal Mining Company (1864). Henry M. Rice, Henry H. Sibley, Franklin Steele, Charles Flandrau, and others were interested in this company. The scrapbook also contains clippings of theatrical performances held in Vincennes, Indiana, in which Eames participated (1863-1864); of the performances at the St. Paul Athenaem for the St. Paul Sanitary Fair (1863, 1865); and notices of theatrical performances in Duluth (1871).

Contains notes on the North Shore of Lake Superior and brief entries on Eames's explorations of the North Shore area between Duluth and Beaver Bay.
Volume 4. Booklet: The Vermilion Lake Mineral Land Company, 1866.
Contains the articles of association and declaration of trust, and a description of a company formed to explore the Lake Vermilion region for gold and silver.
Volume 5. Notebook, 1873-1874.
Contains geological notes on Lake Superior and Dakota Territory. Eames explored the Dakota Territory and much of western Minnesota for the Northern Pacific Railroad.
