SCOPE AND CONTENTS
Correspondence (1902-1934); agreements, contracts, and other legal papers (1895-1903); annual statements (1895-1934); log accounts (1892-1905); tax records (1923-1938); articles of incorporation (July 27, 1901); and other papers of F. Weyerhaeuser and Company and the various companies associated with the Weyerhaeusers. From 1892 to ca.1910, the papers deal largely with trespass, acquisition and disposition of timber and timberland, booming, rafting, scaling, and land taxation. From 1910 to 1938, most of the papers deal with the affairs of the Superior Timber Company and Homeseekers Land Company, income and land taxes, disposition of cutover lands, dividends, and other business of the corporations associated with the Weyerhaeusers. There is little information on F. Weyerhaeuser and Company as an organization.
Included is information on a report to Frederick Weyerhaeuser (1903) on the logging situation in Clarke County, Washington, by Robert L. McCormick; proposals for cooperative action in selling and advertising cutover lands (1903); data on the purchase of land in the Pacific Northwest by the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company (1903); plans for the construction of logging rail-roads in the Pacific Northwest (1903); clearing titles to the land holdings of Musser-Sauntry and Company (1903-1904); the acquisition of Cass Lake and Leech Lake timber (1903); a suit against the town of Hudson, Wisconsin, by the Musser-Sauntry Land, Logging and Manufacturing Company for the recovery of taxes on logs paid at Hudson (1904-1905); the dissolution of the St. Croix River Navigation and Improvement Company (1905); Minnesota legislation relating to logs (1907); the St. Croix Boom Company (1908, 1909); the work of the St. Croix Log-Lifting Company in taking deadheads out of the St. Croix (1907); the corporation excise tax law (1909); a resume of the business of the Superior Timber Company (1911, 1912); the estate of Edward Rutledge (1913-1915); map of platted lands managed by George F. Kelly near Duluth and Superior (1914); letterhead of Paul Gappa, agent for the Ocean Steamship Lines in Superior, Wisconsin (1914); and mineral explorations for the Weyerhaeuser companies by the E. J. Longyear Company, Minneapolis (1914, 1916).
