Minnesota Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 1 was incorporated in 1989 and was
the first such association in Minnesota for Korean War veterans and their families.
Its first board of directors consisted of Lawrence Goga, Robbinsdale; Roger Goswitz,
Saint Paul; and Donald Parrott, Minneapolis. The organization was a non-profit
corporation whose stated purposes were to educate the American people about the
Korean War and about the servicemen and women who served there; to encourage
contributions for the construction of a national memorial to those who served; and
such other charitable causes as the organization may decide to pursue. Chapter 1 was
based in Saint Paul and held monthly meetings in and around the Twin Cities. Its
parent organization, the Korean War Veterans Association (KWVA), was incorporated in
1985 and was based in Waterford, New York.

The collection includes historical materials, articles of incorporation and bylaws,
newsletters, minutes of meetings, membership information, presidential files of
Larry Goga, and files relating to events, conventions, and anniversary reunions of
the chapter. The largest group of files concerns the construction of a Korean War
memorial on the grounds of the Veterans Services Building in Saint Paul.
