BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Joseph McAllister Kellogg
was born November 4, 1891 to Rodney and Mary (McAllister) Kellogg in St. Paul,
Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota, before leaving in 1912 to work
with the Northern Pacific Railway until 1917. In November 1917, he enlisted in the
United States Engineer’s 25th Regiment Company F. Prior to discharge in August 1919,
he attended the Royal Technical College in Glasgow, Scotland, to study engineering.
He worked at Arnold Construction Company from October 1919-December 1920; Siems-Helmers Inc., December 1920-July 1939; Nick F. Helmers, Inc., July 1939-July 1944. After which he worked for McWilliams Dredging Company and then Johnson, Drake, and Piper Inc. Details of his time with Siems-Helmers and Nick F. Helmers are provided in his biographical file. Kellogg passed away in February 1958, as vice president of Johnson, Drake and Piper, Inc. (Minneapolis-St. Paul general contracting firm). National and international engineering projects focused on railroad bridges and dams (often near steam power plants); these include the Mississippi River Bridge in New Orleans and the Garrison Spillway in North Dakota.
He married Serine A. Christopher October 4, 1921 in St. Croix Falls, Polk County, Wisconsin. They had four children.
