Luther S. Cushing, born June 22, 1803, was the son of the Hon. Edmund Cushing of Lunenburg, Massachusetts. He graduated from the law school in Cambridge in 1826. In 1832 he was elected a representative from Boston to the Legislature and appointed an associate judge of the Court of Common Pleas the same year. He was the reporter of decisions of the Supreme Court from 1848-1854. He published manuals on both the legislature and the law. He died on the 53rd anniversary of his birth, June 22, 1856.
