Expand/CollapseBIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

O.E. LarsonOscar Erik Larson was born August 27, 1860 in Sweden. He immigrated to Minnesota in 1881, arriving in Minneapolis on October 19. He first worked as a cabinet maker but moved into the mortuary business as a funeral director and eventually established and operated the O.E. Larson Funeral Home. Larson also served as a Minneapolis alderman, and was active in his Swedish Baptist church. His mortuary eventually became a part of Methven-Taylor Funeral Homes.

Larson married Louise Anderson in 1887 after several years of courtship. The couple had three daughters: Edith, Lillie, and Myrtle. Louise was the daughter of P.D. (Peter Daniel) and Carolina Anderson, Swedish immigrants who farmed in Carver County, Minnesota. Peter Daniel Anderson was a veteran of the Civil War, and his letters home formed the basis of the book Marching barefoot: a collection of Civil War letters.
