HISTORICAL NOTE
The Minnesota Branch of the National Congress of Mothers and Parent-Teacher Associations was organized in Saint Paul on October 27, 1922. Its name changed to Minnesota Congress of Parents and Teachers, circa 1926, and to Minnesota Congress of Parents, Teachers, and Students, circa 1973. It is known informally as Minnesota PTA. The organization's stated purpose is to work with schools and the community to provide quality education for all children and youth, to participate in the decision-making process establishing school policy, to promote the health and welfare of children and youth, and to promote collaboration among parents, schools, and the community. The state organization functions as an umbrella organization over constituent (local) parent teacher associations located throughout the state.
