BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Mark Stephen Garrigan was an artist based in the Twin Cities when he managed and served on the board of Rifle Sport Alternative Art Gallery in Minneapolis. He married MaryBeth Hoover in 1992, with whom he had two children, Rebecca and Rowan. Garrigan was living in Wabasha, Minnesota at the time of his sudden death at the age of 49 in 2013.
Rifle Sport was a non-mainstream art gallery opened in 1985 by Colleen Barnett. It was located at 602 Hennepin Avenue in a space formerly occupied by a pinball arcade and shooting gallery in a rundown part of downtown Minneapolis. The city demolished the block where the gallery was located in 1988 and, after a short-lived move to a new space at 1633 Hennepin Avenue near Loring Park, the gallery closed in 1989.
