Karen Jean AndersonKaren Jean Anderson served on the Minnetonka city council from 1986 to 1993, and as mayor from 1994 to 2005. During her tenure she was president of the League of Minnesota Cities. She was elected president and served as a director of the National League of Cities, and was the organization's point person on homeland security issues.

Karen Jean Schubert was born March 14, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. She married Thomas Craig Anderson in 1960, and the couple came to Minnetonka in November 1964. Anderson joined the Minnetonka League of Women Voters in 1967 and became interested in school and city issues. She graduated in 1990 from Metropolitan State University, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in communications.

The collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, snapshot photographs, meeting agendas, invitations, reports, speeches, campaign materials, memorabilia, and other papers documenting Anderson's years in local government, her involvement in the League of Minnesota Cities and the National League of Cities, and in homeland security issues in the years following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Most of the material is contained in large, chronologically-arranged scrapbooks. Each scrapbook includes an album index and bibliographic information on articles contained therein. All listed items in albums are single pages unless otherwise noted. The album indexes serve as guides, and most albums include additional un-noted items and/or pages.
