Expand/CollapseHISTORICAL NOTE

Originally the Very Special Arts (VSA) of Minnesota, the non-profit organization was founded in 1986 to provide artistic programs and services for children and adults with disabilities. When founded, the organization was an affiliate of the Very Special Arts program of the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, which was originally founded in 1974 by Jean Kennedy Smith. VSA Minnesota's mission was "to create a community where people with disabilities can learn through, participate in and access the arts." In 2010, the organization dropped its affiliation with the national network overseen by the John F. Kennedy Center, and changed its name to Vision, Strength, Access (VSA) of Minnesota. VSA Minnesota closed in September 2019 due to diminishing financial resources and retirement of long-term leadership.
