Correspondence, schedules and itineraries, speeches and statements, reports, memorabilia, background and briefing materials, clippings, and other materials, primarily on the Vice President's trips abroad. The largest groups of files pertain to his trips to a number of Asian and South Pacific countries during December 1965-February 1966; to Europe in March-April 1967; and to Africa on December-January 1968.

There are small files for trips to the Dominican Republic (June 30-July 2, 1966), to Korea for the inauguration of President Park Chung-Kee (June 29-July 3, 1967), to Southeast Asia (October 29-November 7, 1967), and to Mexico (March 31-April 1, 1968). Several separate groups of correspondence, press reports, and compilations of newspaper clippings reflect public and press opinion on Humphrey's trips, including some foreign public opinion. Other files concern a few United States trips, primarily to space and defense facilities or for related occasions.

The trip files were maintained by Humphrey staff members Bill Connell (Asia 1965-1966), Ashton Gallagher and Ted Van Dyk (Europe 1967), and Donald W. Paffel and others (United States).

Trip report files for 1965-1967 were kept by Donald W. Paffel; the staff member represented in trip files for 1968 could not be determined.


Trip materials may include manifests, requests for use of Air Force airplanes, schedules, and some financial data. Newspaper clippings relating to trips (Boxes 1348-1349) are arranged chronologically by trip. Clippings on each trip have been stapled together into packets, with the date and place of the trip written in the upper right hand corner of the packet.


Correspondence and miscellany for individual trips was consolidated from formerly separate folders; materials for each trip are stapled together.
