Harold Keith Bradford was born in Pennsboro, West Virginia in 1902. Bradford received an AB from West Virginia University in 1923. He attended the Harvard Graduate School of Business from 1924-1925, and George Washington University Law School in 1930.

Bradford served in the following roles post-graduation: Manager of offices for the firm J.A.W. Iglehart & Co. in West Virginia (1926-1935); Securities Commissioner of the State of West Virginia (1932-1935); and Group Chief of the Securities Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. (1935-1940).

In 1940, Bradford relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota to accept the appointment of Assistant Vice President of the Investors Syndicate, eventually taking over the role of Vice President. In 1945, Bradford was appointed the Director of the Investors Stock Fund, Inc., and then in 1949 overtook the directorship of the following three funds of the Investors Diversified Service, Inc. (IDS): Investors Mutual, Inc.; Investors Selective Fund, Inc.; and Investors Stock Fund, Inc.

On June 30, 1965, Bradford was promoted to President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Investors Group of Companies, overseeing numerous mutual funds.

Harold Bradford married Juanita Fought. Together they had three children: Harold, Judith, and Susan.
