HISTORICAL NOTE
The Church of St. John the Evangelist held its first service in January 1881. It is located in a comfortable neighborhood that in its early days attracted many prominent families. Its membership included business executives, professionals, and politicians and statesmen. Its building was designed by architect Cass Gilbert (1895), with an addition by Clarence H. Johnston (1902). St. John the Evangelist is a member parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota.
