Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

Personal files (1940-1981) contain drafts of articles, manuscripts, term papers, and monographs on economic and political topics; a few samples of study questions and examinations devised by Youngdale for his courses; and newspaper clippings and magazine articles by and about him.

The second section, containing his political files (1932-1981), includes printed material and related files documenting his unsuccessful campaigns for the sixth congressional district seat (1948-1966), his participation in the Democratic Party groups mentioned above, and his involvement in Eugene McCarthy's presidential primary races for the 1968 nomination. His activities in these groups placed him in opposition to the regular DFL Party organization and leadership. Also included is a small collection of minutes, newsletters, and other papers relating to the Minnesota Americans for Democratic Action organization (1969-1975).

The papers also include some correspondence (1932-1946) documenting the political career of W.C. Swanson in the Farmer-Labor and DFL parties. Swanson, also a farmer from Swift County, was a Farmer-Labor state representative from the 25th district.
