HISTORICAL NOTE
Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization of women educators, began in 1947 with the goals of recognizing outstanding women educators, building a fraternal fellowship among women in education, and promoting charitable projects and activities, including scholarships for potential educators. Membership is honorary and is based upon peer recognition.
The national organization (Grand Chapter), Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Incorporated, is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. The state organization is known as Minnesota Alpha Delta Kappa. In 1986 there were 39 local chapters located throughout the state.
The Minnesota Alpha Chapter, Minnesota's first chapter, was organized at Saint Paul on August 20, 1952. The Minnesota Theta Chapter, also of Saint Paul, was organized in 1958, and merged into the Minnesota Alpha Chapter around 2000.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
The bulk of the collection consists of scrapbooks, which contain snapshot photographs of member dinners and programs, national Alpha Delta Kappa newsletters, meeting agendas, budget and financial information, altruism reports, notes, letters, and memoranda, printed email, certificates of recognition, chapter calendars, gubernatorial proclamations, and similar material.
