Expand/CollapseBIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Lloyd C. Hackl was an author, F. Scott Fitzgerald scholar, and English instructor. Hackl was born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1936. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota. He served as an English instructor at Lakewood Community College (now Century College) in White Bear Lake, Minnesota from 1970 to 1997.

During his time at the college, Hackl instituted a literature course requirement, and helped develop and implement computer technology for the English Department. He also established the college's Writing Center, and started a writer-in-residence program, which featured prominent Minnesota authors and poets, including Bill Holm and Robert Bly.

Lloyd Hackl also frequently taught, wrote, and presented on author F. Scott Fitzgerald. This included leading tours on F. Scott Fitzgerald's life and times in St. Paul, and the publication of his book Still home to me: F. Scott Fitzgerald and Saint Paul (1996). Hackl's other publications included: The wooden-shoe people : an illustrated history of the first Swedish settlement in Minnesota (1986) and A history of Chisago County: 1851-2001 (2001).

Lloyd C. Hackl died at his winter home on November 21, 2009 in Peoria, Arizona.
