SCOPE AND CONTENTS
Press releases are supplemented by Joint Economic Committee releases for 1975-1977, the period in which Humphrey served as committee chairman; and the syndicated Humphrey column, distributed to newspapers in 1969-1970. Government documents or texts of statements and remarks are occasionally appended to the releases.
There are few press releases present for the vice presidential years (1965-1968), although an apparently complete set of 1968 campaign releases is included. Some vice presidential releases may be found intermingled with relevant subject and trip files; however, most appear to be missing. Releases for July-December 1972 also are incomplete. Press releases for the 1968 campaign were issued from the offices of Democratic National Committee, the United Democrats for Humphrey, and Citizens for Humphrey (or for the Humphrey-Muskie campaign), accompanied by remarks from the vice president's office and statements made by Humphrey, all interfiled. Also present (in separate folders) are release drafts, memoranda and background materials, and Humphrey's responses to foreign policy questions.
ARRANGEMENT
Releases are arranged mainly chronologically, although some subject categories appear for some years.
