The University Club of Saint Paul was founded in 1907 by members of the St. Paul Club, Inc. (formed in 1904) to promote social intercourse among members; to support literary undertakings, as well as music and fine arts; and to provide beneficial games and exercises. Eligibility requirements included graduation from, or attendance at, a university or college. By 1910, the club's general purpose was to maintain a club house for social purposes. The club house in the Summit Hill area of St. Paul was opened in 1912. Later amendments allowed non-university men and women to join the club.
