Expand/CollapseHISTORICAL NOTE

Originally the Minneapolis Dunkers, the organization began in 1948 as a breakfast club to honor and recognize the accomplishments of local athletes and sports figures of prominence visiting Minneapolis. The idea of the organization was born from businessman Chet Roan, who sought out sports columnists, the Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce, and business and civic leaders to organize the group to help promote the drive to establish major league baseball and football in Minnesota, and the building of a new stadium.

In 1992, the organization changed its name to the Twin Cities Dunkers to emphasize the larger metro area membership of the organization, and its broader partnerships with various sports related organizations withing the Twin Cities.

The breakfast club is organized into "seasons and games" for its yearly programming, and the meetings that honor the accomplishments of athletes and sports related groups at various levels of amateur, college, and professional sports. The Dunkers continues strong ties with the major league franchises of Minnesota, and maintains various funds to financially support high school athletic programs within the region.
