Lawrence PerlmanLawrence ("Larry") Perlman was born in St. Paul in 1938, graduated from Carleton College and Harvard Law School, and practiced law in Minnesota from 1964 to 1975. He joined medical device manufacturer Medtronic Inc. in 1975 as vice president and general counsel. He was Senior Partner at the Oppenheimer, Wolff & Donnelly law firm from 1978 to 1980.

In 1980 Perlman joined Control Data Corporation as vice president and general counsel, held various trouble-shooting management positions there, and in January 1990 was named its president and chief executive officer, with the assignment to turn the struggling company around. In 1992 the company was split into Control Data Systems (computer systems integration) and Ceridian Corporation (information services), with Perlman as CEO of Ceridian, a position he held until 1999.

Perlman was noted for his interest in advancing the role of women in corporate culture and in public policy initiatives for training and the education of a skilled technical workforce.
