CAPITOL AREA LIBRARY CONSORTIUM (MINN.):

The Capitol Area Library Consortium (CALCO) is a group of libraries and information centers serving the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of Minnesota state government and the citizens of Minnesota. CALCO welcomes other libraries, organizations, and individuals as associate members, who may attend meetings and educational programs.

CALCO was formed in 1973 to encourage cooperation among government libraries. It was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in 1977. CALCO libraries belong to a statewide on-line library catalog (MnPALS), and share information resources among CALCO libraries and statewide through Minitex (an information and resource sharing program of the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and the University of Minnesota Libraries). They provide Internet guidance and leadership, cooperate in acquiring federal depository documents and other materials, participate in long-range planning, advise on the development of state government libraries, and offer continuing education programs.

The materials are largely administrative in nature and include agendas and minutes; files on committee work; CALCO 20th and 25th anniversary materials; and information on some of CALCO's initiatives. There are some snapshot photographs; files on legislation; some information on the MNPALS online catalog; membership information; and a folder of gubernatorial proclamations recognizing the organization.
