DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Expand/CollapseMIDWEST CHINA CENTER

The Midwest China Center was founded in 1975. The organization's main functions were to: provide briefing and information services, resources, and programs to constituencies; stimulate academic research and study projects; and serve as a liaison for China concerns at regional, national, and international levels. Its core member institutions and constituent groups included Upper Midwestern church, academic, civic, cultural, community, and business organizations. The organization published a variety of journals, newsletters, and papers; maintained a research library and the Midwest China Oral History, Archives, and Museum Collection; provided outreach programming for religious, school, and cultural communities; and provided liaison for China-interested organizations. Dr. Donald E. MacInnis served as the organization's first Executive Director, and then was succeeded by Paul Richard Bohr in 1980.

The series includes: the organization's administrative records (1964, 1976-1989); reference materials, prints, and publications from the organization's research library, the Midwest China Oral History, Archives, and Museum Collection, and its outreach programs (undated, 1928, 1945, 1954, 1956, 1960s-1990s); and audio recordings and one video recording from various seminars and conferences hosted by or related to the organization (undated, 1986-1989).
