SCOPE AND CONTENTS
Twin Cities Festival Organizing Committee
Includes minutes from committee staff meetings (1989); a committee staff directory (1990); proclamations by Governor Rudy Perpich and the mayors of Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Bloomington declaring July 6, 1989 as "U.S. Olympic '90 Day" and July 6 15, 1990 as "U.S. Olympic Festival '90 Days"; a sample gift certificate and order forms for festival souvenirs; a guest log (December 21, 1988-August 1, 1990) listing office visitors and participants at various meetings and events; issues of Momentum, a newsletter published by the Committee; correspondence related to the selection of an advertising agency to handle the festival's promotion; printing samples of stationary, business cards, logos, tickets, mailing labels, and other promotional material; a media kit containing background information on individuals connected with the festival, including executive director Jack Kelly and the festival itself; press releases; newspaper and magazine clippings covering the committee's activities and festival events; and promotional and press material related to the 1986 Olympic Festival held in Houston, Texas and the 1989 festival in Oklahoma.
Festival Management
The remainder of the papers pertain to management of the participants, volunteers, sponsors, and media during the festival. They include a brochure from Anderson Consulting; a manual and a computer disk relating to the computer system used to manage festival operations including participant registration and housing, results reporting, the media, and volunteer management; a notebook provided to venue media chiefs who acted as liaisons between the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) press officers, the working media, and the local organizing committee media/public relations staff; a manual for the festival speakers' bureau; a list of festival sponsors, samples of promotional materials they produced, and a manual for festival sponsors; the official U.S. Olympic Festival '90 Program; publications from the USOC containing background information about itself and the Olympic Festival; guides and handbooks for participants, volunteers, and the media; books containing venue diagrams, schedules, and directional maps; pamphlets, newspaper clippings, and press releases related to various sports including table tennis, team handball, basketball, boxing, and softball; and a U.S. Olympic Festival Record Book (1990).
