George H. Colgrave, Jr. was born in England and settled in St. Paul, Minnesota in the 1850s. He was drama critic on the St. Paul Daily Press and later operated the Press Printing Company in St. Paul. Albert Colgrave was born in England in the late 1830s. He came to the United States and lived for a short time with his brother in St. Paul. Albert Colgrave was a scenic artist and served in the Sixth Regiment of the Minnesota Infantry, Company G. He died at Glencoe, Minnesota, March 4, 1863.

Materials relating to George Colgrave include a copy of his indenture (1851) as an apprentice to Scott & Bascom to learn the trade of bookbinding; his appointment to the 32nd Regiment of the Minnesota State Militia (1863); his employment as a bookbinder with the Press Printing Company and the Pioneer Printing Company, later the Pioneer Company in St. Paul, Minnesota; and his affiliation with fraternal associations in St. Paul. Materials relating to Albert Colgrave include newspaper clippings noting his work as a scenic artist in St. Paul (1857, 1858), a letter of introduction, and tickets to a benefit in his honor. Also included are the marriage certificate of George H. Colgrave, Sr. and Jane Green, a birth certificate for a daughter of George and Jane Colgrave, and business card of G. Colgrave, Coffee and Tea Dealer.
