BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Wilcox was born in Middlebury, Ohio (January 4, 1847), the son of David G. and Hannah (Whitney) Wilcox. He was educated in the public schools and at Dennison College, Granville, Ohio, and came to Minneapolis (1867), where he was employed by and later became head of Wheaton, Reynolds and Francis (1867-1885), manufacturers of sash, doors, and related products. He eventually started his own firm (1885-1918); became a member of the Minneapolis Volunteer Fire Department; and was active in Masonic and social clubs. Wilcox married Emma E. Clement on July 1, 1981, and died in Minneapolis, April 18, 1871. More biographical information on the Wilcox and Clement families is filed at the beginning of the papers.

| Wilcox Family. A letter (July 11, 1875) from Charles J. Millard, Comanche, Iowa, gives some information on the Wilcox family, particularly John F., and on the Ford and other related families. A mortgage note (June 17, 1884) documents a loan to John and Emma Wilcox. | |||||||||||
| Clement Family. Materials relating to the Clement family are a letter of introduction (January 16, 1867) for A. A. Clement, St. Anthony, from O. C. Merriam, mayor; letters (undated, July 10, 1879) from Daniel W. Ranlet, a Boston merchant, to E. B. Clement, Minneapolis, about the purchase of an unidentified machine, and ordering printed cards and other items; a letter of introduction (February 18, 1884) to E. B. Clement from Minneapolis mayor A. A. Ames; a certificate (October 6, 1884) to E. B. Clement from the Minneapolis Knights Templar; and a program (July 28, 1886) of the Annual Regatta, Lurline Boat Club, Lake Calhoun (E. B. Clement was listed as a timekeeper). | |||||||||||

Bottineau, son of Pierre, Minneapolis, certifying the identity of "Peare Bottineau," as Pierre Bottineau, concerning Pierre's land entry of March 4, 1849, for Lot 3, Section 15, Township 20, Range 24, and other deeds dated 1854 and 1858; a newspaper cartoon (July 10, 1891): "After election who owns them now?," relating to Thomas Lowry; and a small group of items containing miscellaneous biographical information. | |||||||||||
