Expand/CollapseSCOPE AND CONTENTS

Two photocopied booklets containing transcripts of World War II letters (Oct. 28, 1944-Nov. 4, 1945) written by Cantine family members and a few portraits. The letters were selected by LaMont Eastvold and Charlotte Prentice from a weekly family newsletter entitled, "Cantine Corn Consuming Corporation Chronicle," which was originally distributed during the war by Virginia Aarthun of St. Paul, Minnesota and is also included in the collection.

The majority of the letters were written by cousins in the military who were stationed abroad. Wallace Kramer, Jack Cantine, and Lauritz Aarthun served in Europe and wrote of their respective experiences in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. Jergen Aarthun, Donald Aarthun, and George Orrben served in the Pacific and their letters describe experiences during the invasion of the Philippines and the battle of Okinawa. There are also a few selections related to family members who were stationed in the U.S. including Scott G. and Peter C. Kramer

Photographs and photocopies of other genealogical materials are also included.
