Biographical Note: Swedish-American Minnesota author Otto Emil Anderson was the assistant superintendent of the Minnesota State Capitol and wrote extensively for the Swedish press. Writing while visiting her son in Wisconsin, Hamilton describes an excursion to the Falls of Saint Anthony, especially her impressons of the area's Indians and landscape. Includes a typed transcript made by Minnesota Historical Society staff.

Biographical Note: Elizabeth Hamilton, the widow of Alexander Hamilton, undertook a journey to Wisconsin in 1837 to visit her son William Stephen Hamilton, who was living in a mining camp at Wiota. While there she undertook a further voyage on the Upper Mississippi where she saw the Falls of Saint Anthony.
