The receipt from Horace Greeley and Company, New York City, acknowledges Trask's (Edwardsburgh, Mich.) subscription to the New-Yorker.
Lecture notes, September 27, 1865. 13 pp.
The lecture, which Greeley presented at the Minnesota State Fair, summarizes his thoughts on agricultural progress, the development of steam technology, the evolution of American liberty, and the effects of these phenomena on the growth of the western United States.
Letter to James W. Carman, September 19, 1866.
Greely's letter to Canadian journalist Carman (Napasee, Ont.) expresses his belief in the potential union of the United States and Canada. The letter is accompanied by copies of four obituaries (1903) with biographical information on John W. Carman and Thomas S. Carman.
Letter to John W. McClung, June 1, 1868.
The letter extols Minnesota's agricultural development, its economic growth, and its citizens. It also acknowledge's the positive change in Greeley's opinion of the state.
Letter to L. M. [Reavus?], February 4, 1870.
Greeley's letter to the St. Louis resident cites his favorable opinion of the city including comments on its soil, its industries, its commercial growth, and the important position it occupies in the growth of the American West. Accompanying the letter is a photocopied story from the St. Paul Dispatch (Feb. 7, 1983) giving information about the letter.
