Established April 3, 1854 as Blue Earth County School District No. 1; became Joint Independent School District No. 10 of Blue Earth, Nicollet, and Le Sueur counties in May 1957, following the consolidation of a number of rural school districts. On September 6, 1957, it became Independent School District No. 71, Mankato; following further enlargement caused by consolidation, it was renamed Independent School District No. 77 later that year.
