There are five sets of county plats: linen originals; blueline copies with selected parcels of land colored in red and green; a second set of blueline copies pasted onto file folders, containing variant annotations and often accompanied by other county maps; a microfilmed set of plats for 74 counties, also with variant annotations; and maps depicting granted mortgages. Some of the blueline copies are in very poor condition.

One or more plats for each of 74 counties showing township divisions, cities, roads, railroads, schools, churches, cemeteries, and creameries; each accompanied by a chart (on the same sheet) giving township name, partial releases of land, and sometimes loan data for lands involved in the Rural Credit Department loan program. The plats appear in alphabetical order on the microfilm (except that Todd and Traverse counties are out of order. Revision dates are noted at the bottom of each plat.
The following counties are not represented on the film: Blue Earth, Carlton, Chisago, Cook, Dakota, Goodhue, Le Sueur, Pine, Ramsey, Rice, Scott, Wabasha, and Washington.
The microfilmed plats are not exact duplicates of the linen and blueline plats, and may contain subtle differences. The following list is coded to show which counties have paper maps with fewer revisions [FR], more recent revisions [MR], or no noticeable differences between the paper and microfilm versions [NC].
