On April 30, 1999, the Office of Environmental Assistance sponsored a conference in Minneapolis: Taking the Next Step Toward a Sustainable Future. It attracted over 500 attendees. Attendees and other members of the Minnesota Sustainable Communities Network were offered an opportunity to write a letter to inhabitants of the year 2174. The letters of about 32 persons are included in this collection of Letters to the Seventh Generation.
