DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Expand/CollapseSPANISH-AMERICAN WAR VETERANS RELIEF PAYMENT INDEX (MICROFILM SAM 3, REEL 1)

Arranged alphabetically by surname; each entry gives the first and last name of the recipient of a payment for wartime service, address at the time of payment, and warrant number of the cancelled check. The index does not include claimants whose applications were denied.

The majority of the warrant numbers are prefaced with A, although a few later claims are prefaced with B, C, or D. It appears as though not all of the B, C, and D numbers are represented in the index.

LocationReel

Expand/CollapseSPANISH-AMERICAN WAR VETERANS RELIEF PAYMENT APPLICATIONS

The application packets contain such documents as application forms, affidavits of service, medical reports describing injuries sustained during service, discharge papers, marriage and death certificates, and facilitative correspondence. Intermingled with the application files are records of administrative and salary expenses of the Relief Board itself.

The applications for relief were numbered by the board (with an A prefix) as payment was approved, beginning in April 1931. Some gaps in the numerical sequence exist, and a small number of packets at the end of the series are denoted by a B, C, or D prefix.
